The first Chanel N°5 was captured in a simple rectangular bottle with the top which resembled Place Vendome in Paris. I knew they're from different periods, but isn't it the case that the percentage of alcohol for EDP should be more than parfum? So today, I craved a bit of luxury, I smelt Chanel No.5 on a client yesterday, she said she uses No.5 edp, edt, hair mist and body lotion. Once, many months ago, during a visit, she sprayed some of that hair mist on me and I was charmed and transported from a dreary working girl to a rich socialite in an instant. I like edt but it doesn’t hold, 2 hrs and gone with the wind, edp is a lot richer and last longer on me.... Every woman, no matter how working class, needs a little self love and luxury in life, There’s only so much chocolate a girl can eat to feel better, but chocolate and Chanel No. My mom had the perfume and would let me dab a little when I was a kid. L'Instant usually stays with me throughout the day but yesterday it was fading a bit.
I know this is such a classic and everybody should like it (at least those with good taste) My mom loves No. It's definitely a reference point in the perfume world and whether you like it or not, it will forever reserve its spot. First I get clean, Dove soap aldehydes, smooth, creamy ylang ylang, and a gorgeous silky powder from iris and orris root, in that order. Then one time I went on a vacation to New Zealand and for some reason forgot to bring my usual fragrances with me; this was (ironically) the only perfume I had in my bag.But a couple years ago I tried the EDP and after a few minutes I just felt so serene.A calm, confidence & feminine strength swept over me and I couldn't stop smelling my wrist. Whatever happened, Chanel No 5 stepped into my life and it has literally rendered dozens of other fragrances in my collection completely irrelevant. 5 so often that I haven't touched some of my previous favorites in over a year and they are now going up for sale. 5 is mostly a creamy, smooth blend of Aldehyde, ylang ylang, Jasmine, Sandalwood and other non-descript light woods (perhaps vetiver or oak moss) I don't actually pick out any of the other notes. It is clean smelling but to me, it's also a bit dirty. But yes, it is pretty much a skin scent the last 3 or 4 hours.I sometimes wonder if those shouting "GRANNY" from the rooftops have ever even tried it on skin and allowed it to drydown. " When I tell them it's No.5 they're almost always surprised. Gosh, I've heard so much about it but I guess I always thought it was for much older women! However, describing it as a "baby powder" or "granny perfume" is rude!
