Dating a heavy set man
In some ways, this myth is contradictory with another myth that claims fat men only want to be with traditionally attractive people.
Primarily, though, it’s important and unfortunately necessary that fat men will be attracted to a wide variety of people of all shapes and sizes, and the same goes for fat women.
Dear Cary, Currently I'm dating a man who just won't leave my consciousness, not for a moment. I've made a conscious effort to look past it ("it" being my own stupid, shallow, superficial, counterproductive reaction to the weight), but there it is, all of the time.
Why else would someone who could presumably get with anyone they wanted choose to be with a disgusting fat man, right?
Weighing in, in Washington Dear Weighing in, You haven't gotten this far by pretending. So I suggest what you do is go in your backyard and sit quietly and meditate on the fact that you are not turned on by this fat man. If you come to the feeling that you have to end it, then end it. Or maybe you meditate on it and it continues to intrigue you and so you stay with him for a while.
You've gotten this far by being straightforward and honest, and I suggest you continue being straightforward and honest. It has its paradoxes and corollaries as well -- we are freaked out about skinny, and we are freaked out about food, and the planet, and the body and money and exercise and power. Meditate on the fact that you like him very much but he doesn't turn you on. If you come to the feeling that you want to stay with him for a while more, then stay with him for a while more. Maybe you meditate on it and the answer that comes is that it's just not right for you.
About a month ago, one of my sisters tagged me in a video she recorded of Family Feud—a game show where two families compete for a cash prize by trying to find the most popular answers to a variety of questions.
On the episode of the daytime game show she recorded, host and comedian Steve Harvey asks the contestants to answer a rather loaded statement: “Name a reason a woman might decide to be with a chubby [or fat] man.” This, as one might imagine, ends up being a rather humorous round for the contestants, Steve Harvey, and the audience.
